Trailer Park: The Avengers [Trailer 2]

The Earth’s Mightiest Defenders are certainly heading into theaters this summer. If there was any doubt, look no further than the second trailer for this summer’s potential blockbuster, The Avengers.

Where the first trailer wowed audiences and fans with the execution of a collaborative movie (and let’s be honest – this is so star packed it’s almost hard to believe they’re pulling it off), the second trailer gets a little more into the meat and potatoes of the movie: namely some of the conflict we can expect to see. We’ve already seen Thor’s adversary Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in previous materials, but now we’re getting a sense of scale from the alien interlopers that are laying siege to the planet. We still don’t have all of the details, but enough to whet our appetites.

Even more importantly, we’re seeing a sense of the other important conflict: the one within the team. As we’ve seen from the movies, these are characters with a vast diversity of ideological beliefs. You have the self-centered Iron Man (with Tony Stark throwing Nick Fury’s Iron Man 2 assessment of the playboy billionaire back into his face), the all-American hero of Captain America, and the loner Bruce Banner, who is clearly not coming into things completely willingly. Add SHIELD agends Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) and Hakweye (Jeremy Renner) into the mix and… well, Banner summarizes it brilliantly in the trailer: this isn’t a team, it’s a time bomb.

While The Dark Knight Rises is my most anticipated film of the season, any trepidation I had about The Avengers is rapidly disappearing. In fact, it may wind up being a serious contender for the best of the Marvel universe flicks depending on how well the marketing reflects the final product.
